8/23/20 AM NHC UPDATE: TS Marco slides north, TS Laura churns through Caribbean

Nick Lilja Sunday, August 23, 2020 // 9:03 am

Before we dive into the noes from the National Hurricane Center, it is important to mention that as the data from the Hurricane Hunters continues to get ingested into the models, the forecasts will continue to change slightly. But I would bet that another shift in the forecast is coming – this time for Laura – during the next 24… Read more →

Mark your Calendars: Sept 2 features close fly-by from Asteroid 2011 ES4

Nick Lilja Sunday, August 23, 2020 // 12:41 am

NHC updates forecasts, shifts both forecasts toward central Gulf Coast

Nick Lilja Saturday, August 22, 2020 // 4:23 pm

The 4pm update was released from the NHC a bit ago, and it shows a reasonably dramatic shift in the forecasts for both Marco and Laura. The changes are likely prompted by the current interaction both are having with the atmosphere / topography around them and the new model data that is being enhanced by the Hurricane Hunter’s data. The… Read more →

Hype-free: Two tropical storms headed into the Gulf – what we know, don’t know, can’t know, and want to know

Nick Lilja Saturday, August 22, 2020 // 2:41 pm | 1 Response

As most of you guys know,I never claim to have all of the answers. But, I know there are a TON of questions floating around with these two storms and – with the reasonable rarity of having two tropical systems in the Gulf simultaneously – a lot of bad information being passed around by “unpleasant actors” with respect to what… Read more →
