NFL asks judge to dismiss Vilma motion

The saga continues, and no I’m not talking about P.Diddy and the Bad Boy Family. Although, I will say this case “can’t stop, won’t stop” being in the news. Friday, the NFL asked a U.S. District Court judge to dismiss New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma’s motion to have his season-long suspension overturned.

The 6-foot-1, 230 pound All-Pro is preparing for his hearing on Thursday, though, in the meantime the NFL wants the case dismissed citing that in the new NFL CBA Commissioner Roger Goodell has the authority to punish players for “conduct detrimental” to the league. And even though the wording in that could include anything from a DWI to a bounty program.

The NFL is also leaning on the fact that Vilma refused to defend himself during the appeals process.

“By refusing to participate in the merits of the CBA appeal process … the NFLPA and Mr. Vilma have failed to exhaust the dispute resolution procedures available to them,” the NFL’s motion said, according to The Associated Press. “That failure requires dismissal of their actions.”
