NFL levies massive penalties on Saints for “Bounty-gate”

The NFL has lowered the hammer on the New Orleans Saints in a big way.

The league announced early Wednesday afternoon that head coach Sean Payton has been suspended for one-year, beginning on April 1st.

Newly appointed St. Louis Rams defensive coordinator Gregg Williams has been suspended indefinitely and his status will be re-evaluated after the 2012 season.

Saints executive vice president and General Manager Mickey Loomis has been suspended 8 games without pay.

Assistant head coach Joe Vitt has been suspended 6 games without pay.

The Saints franchise has also been fined $500,000 and lost 2nd round draft picks in both 2012 and 2013.

Discipline for players involved in bounty situation is yet to come.
