NFL Hall of Fame announces 2012 selections

The NFL announced its class for 2012, Saturday. It is highlighted by Curtis Martin and Chris Doleman – both Pittsburgh graduates, drafted 10 years apart.

Martin, the NFL’s No. 4 career rusher played for 11 seasons with the New England Patriots and New York Jets. He finished his career with 14,101 yards rushing and 90 rushing touchdowns.

Doleman was an eight-time Pro Bowl player who spent his 15 year career bouncing between the Minnesota Vikings, Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers. He finished his career with 914 tackles and 150.5 sacks.

Cortez Kennedy, Willie Roaf, Dermontti Dawson, and senior selection Jack Butler were also selected. Jerome Bettis, Cris Carter and Bill Parcells were among the finalists who didn’t make it.

Other players who were not selected this year: wide receivers Tim Brown and Andre Reed, defensive end/linebackers Kevin Greene and Charles Haley and defensive back Aeneas Williams.

Former 49ers owner Ed DeBartolo Jr. and another other senior finalist, guard Dick Stanfel, were also not chosen.
