Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton wins Offensive Rookie of the Year

That was an easy decision. Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton won the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. He tallied 47 votes.

The Carolina Panthers quarterback, who tossed 21 touchdowns, set an NFL record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 14. He was also the first player – rookie or otherwise – to throw for 4,000 yards and rush for 500.

Only one quarterback – Dennis Shaw – won the award before the Steelers’ Ben Roethlisberger in 2004. Since then Vince Young, Matt Ryan, Sam Bradford and Newton have been chosen.

Newton helped the Panthers win four more games in 2011 than the team won in 2012.
