Boston Bruins, New York Islanders make trade

The Boston Bruins have acquired forward Brian Rolston and defenseman Mike Mottau from the New York Islanders for prospects Yannick Riendeau and Marc Cantin.

The deal was announced a short time before the official trade deadline.

Both Rolston and Mottau know Boston well. Rolston played for the Bruins from 1999-2004 and Mottau attended Boston College.

According to The Associated Press:

“Rolston had been put on waivers, and he cleared Monday before the trade. Mottau was activated from the injured list on Sunday after missing 26 games with a concussion.”

The Bruins also finalized a trade with the Minnesota Wild. The Bruins traded defenseman Steve Kampfer for defenseman Greg Zanon.

The 31-year-old Zanon was set to be an unrestricted free agent this summer anyway. Kampfer is eight-years Zanon’s minor, at 23, has scored five goals this season.
