US Women’s soccer team Olympics bound

If the box score was all that mattered, this game wasn’t even close. But for 72 minutes, it was a lot closer.

Tobin Heath scored in the 16th minute to get the U.S. on the board but it wasn’t until Carli Lloyd scored in the 72nd minute that the team felt comfortable.

Alex Morgan then added extra insurance in the 89th minute with another goal.

“There were moments where I think Costa Rica were outplaying us, and it just shows you how important it was to all of us,” forward Abby Wambach told reporters. “Nobody wanted to make that mistake. And luckily we didn’t.”

The win also set up a “bragging-rights-only” game against Canada on Sunday.
