Snowboarding World Cup called off, not enough snow

Organizers have called off the Jan. 15 men’s and women’s World Cup snowboard cross event on the Bucheben course. The event – attempted to avoid a mistake made by the Olympics a few years back – was canceled due to a lack of snow.

Recall that the Vancouver Olympics face a lack of snow but went ahead as scheduled and many skiers, snowboarders and other winter sports athletes complained of poor conditions.

The Austrian ski federation doesn’t plan on making that same mistake.

The organization released a statement saying that weeks of relatively warm weather avoided “the production of sufficient snow to build a course suitable for a World Cup cross.”

Right now, no rescheduling dates were released.
