Seattle Mariners invite Munenori Kawasaki to spring training

Well, it turns out that Japanese infielder Munenori Kawasaki is a man of his word. Recall, earlier this year Kawasaki said he would play in America if, and only if, he could play with Seattle Mariners outfielder Ichiro Suzuki.

Well, earlier today the 30-year-old announced: “I’ll be going to Arizona in February to compete for a job.”

Which can only mean one thing, right? Yes, indeed. According to The Associated Press Kawasaki has been invited to spring training by the Seattle Mariners. In fact, Suzuki and Kawasaki worked out together in Kobe on Thursday according to the AP.

Kawasaki batted .267 with 161 hits in 144 games last season in Japan is hoping to land a starting spot on the Mariners in 2012. The Mariners open the season with a two-game series against the Oakland Athletics in Japan on March 28 and 29.
