Pistons reach to D-League, sign Russell Walker to replenish bench

DEE-TROIT BASKET-BALL is reaching. And reaching. The injury-prone team in this shortened NBA season is feeling the sting of the injury bug and now, they are really, really reaching.

According to The Associated Press, the Detroit Pistons are “reaching in” to the NBA’s D-League in order to compete with a complete backcourt.

Ouch.

The Pistons signed guard Walker Russell Jr. from the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.

Yup, the “Mad Ants”. Look at it this way, at least they didn’t spell it with a “z”.

To be fair, Russell Jr. isn’t just some schmuck. He is averaging 16.6 points and almost 10 assists so far this season.

Detroit coach Lawrence Frank told reporters Russell might even get playing time Friday night against Memphis.
