Oklahoma City Thunder ink Westbrook, 5-year $80 million deal

From a sideline arguement to a grin all the way to the bank. All-Star point guard Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder have come to an agreement on a five-year, $80 million contract extension.

The deal has been reported by multiple news outlets, including Yahoo! Sports and ESPN.

Thunder general manager Sam Presti finalized the deal with Westbrook’s agent on Wednesday night and the deal was announced Thursday.

Many analysts question if Westbrook – a shoot-first point guard – and Kevin Durant can coexist.

The two main reason Westbrook will be a Thunder uniform longer is he wanted to be there and the Thunder front office takes a lot of pride in drafting him.

Because of that the two sides came to a deal before next Wednesday’s deadline for rookie contract extensions.

Recall that Westbrook was taken with the fourth-overall pick in the 2008 draft.

More to come…
