NFL keeps Commissioner Roger Goodell through 2018

Four more years? Try six. That’s how long NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will be incharge of The Shield. And, chances are, when his contract is up six years from now, he’ll be back again.

“It is the only place I have ever wanted to work,” Goodell said.

He deserves the extension, too. Goodell helped the NFL through a 132-day lockout and followed it up with a wildly successful NFL season. Recall that 23 of the 25 most-watch TV programs from September to December were NFL games.

The terms of the six-year extension were not disclosed.

“I am grateful for the contributions and counsel of NFL owners in managing our league, the talented staff that supports us, and the players and coaches that perform their magic on the field. It is truly a team effort,” Goodell told The Associated Press. “I am eagerly looking ahead to the challenge of building on our momentum and doing all we can to improve our game for the fans and everyone that is part of our league.”

The NFL is now completely locked in, contractually, for the next six years. No labor contacts, TV contracts, and now, no Commissioner contracts until 2018.
