Syracuse DE Jones forgoes senior season, enters NFL draft

One Orangemen is leaving his teammates red. Okay, not really. But, Syracuse defensive end Chandler Jones does plan on leaving his team for the NFL. He is skipping senior year to do so and leaving a team that just started to turn the corner.

Syracuse has been, in recent years, bad. But the last two seasons, with Jones’ help, the Orange have turned a laughable program into a bowl contender.

Jones was even a 2011 All-Big East first-team selection. For Syracuse, that might happen frequently on the hardwood, but the football field? It’s a rarity.

Jones leaves Syracuse with 147 career tackles, seventh among Orange down linemen. He finished the 2011 season with 38 tackles in seven games (he missed five games due to injury) including six tackles and two sacks in the 49-23 upset over West Virginia.
