With multiple reports out of the Portland Trail Blazers organization that All-Star guard Brandon Roy is considering retirement, the team isn’t talking. And neither is his agent.
The move was first reported by ESPN.
Roy would seek a medical retirement citing his bad knees as the issue.
Roy would be entering his fifth season with the Blazers. He has been bothered with knee problems since his college days. Since entering the league he has battled through knee injuries and surgeries due to – what he says is – lacking enough cartilage between the bones in his knees.
This new report doesn’t line up with earlier reports – including those on this site – which cited Roy’s interest in continuing to play. In fact, Monday, Blazers President Larry Miller, Head Coach Nate McMillan and interim General Manager Chad Buchanan fielded questions regarding releasing or moving Roy despite his desire to play.
Roy had said he felt good and was ready to help the team in any way he could.
