Urban Meyer not at Ohio State game? Smoooth…

How about the reports that Nick Saban… I mean… Urban Meyer won’t be calling the Ohio State – Michigan game today.

According to an ESPN spokesperson, Meyer requested time off and it was granted.

While Meyer continues to deny reports that he has accepted a job with Ohio State all of his actions seem to point to the opposite.

Think about it. He works as an analyst going to all of the top-tier games, talking to other top-tier coaches all season long. He gets time to ask their opinions on coaching, life, balancing it all. He gets an opportunity to talk to coordinators and assistant coaches – you know to add to his staff.

And above all else, he gets the opportunity to schmooze with athletic directors – who talk to each other, don’t even doubt it – all over the country.

And after reports surface that he has accepted the job at Ohio State, all of the sudden he doesn’t want access to those opportunities. Really?

To be fair, there could be another explanation.

Perhaps with all of the reports and rumors he doesn’t want to be seen around the Ohio State program. It could just add fuel to the fire. People dissecting every comment, every question, every sentence he says on air.

So, for Meyer, distancing himself from Ohio State isn’t about taking that job, but about not risking rampant rumor swelling during his current one.

But, then again, to quote Homer Simpson: “Yeah, and monkeys might fly out of my butt.”
