Urban Meyer contract details

So everyone saw it coming. I did. You did. We all did. Urban Meyer is the newest head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes football program.

Somewhere (read: everywhere) Michigan fans are worried.

Maybe I’m behind the times, too, but apparently Meyer’s contract was leaked to the media. I say, “behind the times” because I don’t recall this being a regular practice amongst Universities and new coaches.

Maybe I missed it.

Anyway, the newest member of the Ohio State family has it pretty good. Here are a few of the highlights of the leaked Urban Meyer contract:

  • Contract runs from 2011 through 2018
  • $4 million dollars the first year with incremental increases each year (nothing exciting or interesting here)
  • $500,000 for “transitional purposes” (read: moving)
  • $1.2 million dollar bonus if still coaching at Ohio State in 2018.
  • $150,000 bonus for a team APR above 1000 and another $150,000 if graduation rate is above 80 percent.
  • $100,000 bonus and another year added to his contract for winning the Big Ten Championship Game.
  • $150,000 bonus for a BCS bowl berth.
  • $250,000 for National Championship berth.

Now for the really fun stuff….

  • $1,200 per month stipend for two cars.
  • A membership at a local golf course
  • 35 hours of personal air time in the Ohio State private jet each year

I’d say Urban Meyer cleaned house. No wonder he said he wouldnt ahve come back to coaching for any other job. Who else would offer these benefits? He gets a ton of cash, a handful of bonuses a stipend for two cars, a membership at a golf course and access to a personal jet.
