Syracuse basketball starts new chapter

In a seemingly vacant Carrier Dome, Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim received a standing ovation as he walked onto the court. At that time, about half of the 16,000 that eventually showed up were in attendance.

Syracuse was hosting Eastern Michigan in a game carried more weight off the court, than on it.

An interesting coincidence that in the first game since firing assistant coach Bernie Fine – accused of sexual abuse by three men – Boeheim would coach against a former assistant,first-year Eastern Michigan coach Rob Murphy.

Murphy sat on the bench on the Syracuse side of the court for seven years.

Boeheim, in his 36th season, has received support from Syracuse Chancellor, Nancy Cantor and as he walked out onto the court, received support from his fans as well.

As the game began, there was one main difference, Fine’s seat on the bench was not left vacant Tuesday as it had been for the last home game 10 days ago.
