Kansas’ Turner Gill’s seat stays warm, will he be fired?

And now he plays the waiting game. Kansas football coach Turner Gill might not have to wait long to get the final word on his job security, he should hear by the end of this week.

Gill, in his second year, has been sitting on a seat that has gotten progressively warmer as he moved through the season. Athletic director Sheahon Zenger will examine if Gill, and his 5-19 record, deserve another year of employment with the Jayhawks.

Gill originally signed a five-year, $10 million contract. But, Zenger’s signature isn’t on that contract, former AD, Lew Perkins’ is. Gill will also be owed about $6 million if he’s fired, according to The Associated Press.

Gill told reporters Saturday he hadn’t spoken to Zenger about his job, but he thinks he will still be leading the Jayhawks in 2012. When speaking with players, they also agree.
