Only a short while removed from losing Syracuse and Pittsburgh in the schools’ move to the ACC, the Big East is in the midst of making their own moves. The Big East and Air Force met for more than two hours. Air Force Athletic Director Hans Mueh, football coach Troy Calhoun and Lt. Gen. Mike Gould, the academy’s superintendent, gave a presentation (no word yet if they used Powerpoint or Keynote) on why the league would be a good fit for the Falcons.
The Colorado Springs Gazette first reported the meeting.
David Cannon, Air Force spokesperson, said the meeting was strictly informational. Even though Air Force met with the Big East Commissioner, John Marinatto, and the league’s senior associate commissioner, Nick Carparelli.
So far, there hasn’t been an invitation extended to Air Force. The move would be for football only. Cannon didn’t give details about the meeting, what was discussed and if there was any timetable in place.
“The Big East did give us a lot to think about,” Cannon told The Associated Press. “The decision will be in large part based on what’s best for the cadet athletes, the Air Force Academy as an institution and the bigger Air Force.”
So while the college football scene continues to change and shift, Air Force fans not play the waiting game.
And fans in the Big East continue to look around wondering “who’s next?” as rumors spread that Houston, SMU and Central Florida might be joining the conference..
