Study concludes NCAA athletes should be paid, handsomely

As if the NCAA didn’t already have enough to deal with in regards to paying players a new study concluded that a standout men’s college basketball players is “worth” $100,000 and that the players are entitled to get what they deserve.

The price was calculated as a fair market value. The study also concluded that the scholarships offered to players don’t cover the entire cost of attendance and often leave them living below the poverty line.

The report, offered by the National College Players Association and a Drexel University professor, will be released Tuesday but The Associated Press obtained an early copy and Frederic Frommer was the first to report the findings.

NCAA President Mark Emmery still opposes paying players but is interested in offering grants that cover the entire cost of attendance.
