Panthers QB Cam Newton breaks more NFL records, loses again

If you’re Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, it’s tough. The Panthers No. 1 draft choice set some more NFL rookie records Sunday against the defending Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers before turnovers and undisciplined football cost the Panthers a 30-23 defeat.

Newton passed for 432 yards against the Packers. It is the most ever in a single game by a rookie. After two games, he’s tallied 854 passing yards, another rookie record. He even, for a few hours, held the record for the most passing yards by a quarterback in the first two weeks of the season.

That record was broken by Tom Brady (940 yards) during the late afternoon games.

Newton completed 28-of-46 passing against the Packers but also threw two costly interceptions – both to Charles Woodson. And in Newtons first two games, while he has set records, he also hasn’t won any games.

Although, building a lead against the defending champions, isn’t easy, keeping it is where quarterbacks earn their paycheck. And how a quarterback gains a reputation as a winner.

Something Newton is still working toward.
