Nine finalists chosen for NCAA Woman of the Year

Nine finalists have been chosen by the NCAA for the NCAA Woman of the Year award. The award, given to an outstanding female athlete every year. A few of this year’s finalists are Alabama soccer player Danielle Blair, Arizona swimmer Annie Chandler and Georgia gymnast Grace Johnson.

The most surprising candidate might be the one who didn’t make the cut: Former Connecticut basketball star Maya Moore was a semifinalist but didn’t make it as a finalist.

The winner will be announced Oct. 16.

Last year’s winner was Arizona swimmer Justine Schluntz.
