Mountain West conference seeking own realignment answers

Amidst all of the school swapping across the country, it seems like all of the BCS power conferences are getting stronger, while the smaller conferences slide into the abyss of irrelevance.

But, Mountain West Conference Commissioner, Craig Thompson, isn’t enjoying the ride, if anything he is putting his foot down.

Thompson is looking into way to improve his league – including merging with another conference – and remain a contender amongst the BCS conferences.

The MWC has been rumored to having been involved in talks with Conference USA about a possible merger in football that would give new meaning to “Super Conference.”

The two conference merger would put roughly 22 teams in a two division conference spreading from coast-to-coast. That list could include, Thompson said, TCU if they choose to rescind their departure from the MWC. That and Thompson hasn’t ruled out additions from the Big 12, should it continue to fall apart.
