Houston Texans looking for redemption versus Indianapolis Colts

The entire city of Houston might be sleeping a little easier at night knowing the Houston Texans won’t be opening the season against Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning.

The last two outings against No. 18 have been less than successful.

While the city breathes easier, the team is undoubtedly disappointed it won’t get a chance to prove they can stop Manning.

During the offseason the Houston Texans’ defense was restructured by new defensive coordinator, Wade Phillips, and his 3-4 scheme. The defense showed promise during the preseason, generating 15 sacks and seven turnovers in four games. Phillips told reporters, repeatedly, he has kept things simple and still noticed some mistakes and miscues so far. But that, overall, he’s happy with the effort everyone’s put into learning the new system.

But the real test was supposed to be Sunday against the Colts and Manning.

But now, with Manning out – for the first time since 1997 – the Texans will face Kerry Collins, a shuffled offense line and a running back by committee.
