Detroit’s Jason Hanson reaches milestone, sets NFL record

On Sept. 6th, 1992, Detroit kicker Jason Hanson kicked his first extra point after a Brett Perriman 40-yard touchdown reception. It was a pass from Rodney Peete.

Twenty seasons later, Hanson is playing his 297th game with the Lions. In doing so, he set an NFL record for games with one team.

Hanson, who was drafted in the second round out of Washington State, surpasses Hall of Fame center Bruce Matthews, on the all-time most starts for a single team list. Matthews played 296 games with the Houston-Tennessee franchise. In third is Darrell Green, who played 295 with the Washington Redskins.

Hanson kicked an extra point – his 585th extra point and his 1900th point of his career – after a Calvin Johnson 15-yard touchdown reception from Matthew Stafford and on the ensuing kickoff his record was announced for the crowd. He was given a standing ovation.
