Texas Longhorns’ Gilbert named starting quarterback

After a disappointing 2010, Garrett Gilbert start camp prepared to turn things around for the Texas Longhorns. And now he’ll get his chance.

He was named the starting quarterback for 2011. Gilbert was announced as the Longhorns’ starter Monday, the team plays it’s season opener on Saturday against Rice.

The team is boasting a complete overhaul of it’s offense. One that should be catered to Gilbert a little better. Gilbert only passed for 10 touchdowns last season and piled up 17 interceptions last season.

It was a four-way battle for the starting spot at the beginning of camp. Case McCoy remains the No. 2 QB. McCoy is the younger brother of former Texas quarterback Colt McCoy and threw just one pass last season.
