South Carolina Gamecocks’ Stephen Garcia returns, ready

It was almost a non-story. He almost left the team. South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia considered leaving his team after his fifth suspension this past spring.

He was suspended for showing up to a life skills seminar smelling of booze. It was 13 days earlier that he promised his last misstep was behind him.

But, despite being suspended, he returned after receiving a lot of support from his teammates, he told reporters. They helped change his mind. They helped persuade him to return for his final season. Garcia spoke publicly Sunday for the first time since his April suspension.

He was fully reinstated to the team earlier this week and began practicing with the Gamecocks last Wednesday, according to The Associated Press.

Garcia threw for 3,059 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2010. He led the Gamecocks to the Southeastern Conference championship game.
