Sooners linebacker Travis Lewis broke foot

Oklahoma starting weak side linebacker Travis Lewis has broken his foot according to the team’s website.

Head football coach Bob Stoops says he will miss up to eight weeks and the injury to Lewis is disappointing but Corey Nelson will move into Lewis’ position and that Tony Jefferson will work at the nickel back.

“We’re disappointed for Travis,” Stoops said. “He has worked very hard and I know he’ll want to get back as quickly as possible. We’ll adapt in the meantime. We’ve recruited very well and have some excellent athletes in those positions. I’m confident that those players will perform well.”

Lewis is a senior from San Antonio and has led OU in tackles each of the past three seasons. Nelson, a sophomore from Dallas, saw action in all 14 games last season accumulating 21 tackles.

OU trainer Scott Anderson said Lewis’ injury does not require surgery and will be treated with rest and immobilization.
