Georgia high school football players die, heat may be to blame

Sad news from two Georgia high schools. The Associated Press is reporting that two football players have died. On as he left the field at the end of practice.

The other was found unresponsive in his cabin at a football camp in Florida.

Don’terio J. Searcy, a sophomore at Fitzgerald High School, in Fitzgerald, GA was found in his cabin at a Bible Camp in Lake City, Florida after morning practice.

“Searcy was a great player,” Stepman Stevens told WALB news “The whole team loved him. It’s not going to be the same without Searcy. There’s one thing about Searcy, he might be gone but he will always live in my heart, no matter what,”

Across the state, a similar somber tone was heard. According to The Associated Press, the Henry County schools superintendent’s office confirmed that 16-year-old Forrest Jones, a student at Locust Grove High School, died Tuesday night at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Jones spent the past three days in the hospital and Jones’ father, Glenn, told reporters that the doctors say the collapse was heat related.
