WNBA: Atlanta Dream at Washington Mystics – Pre-tip

It’s been a long time since I covered women’s basketball. And to be honest I missed it. I mean where else is there an atmosphere like this?

The day started by wading through about 5,000 kids outside the Verizon Center. Followed by being greeted with a HUGE smile from the press PR folks. Then, Jon Marshall and I, walked to our seats with The Macarena blasting on the PA.

Dale a tu cuerpo alegria Macarena, Que tu cuerpo es pa’ darle alegria y cosa buena, Dale a tu cuerpo alegria, Macarena. Hey Macarena!

While the women warm up on the court I can’t help but notice the ACC presence on the court. Four Dukies, two Terrapins, and Hokie. Considering there are only 12 players on the roster, that’s pretty good.

But it hasn’t been helping as of late, the Mystics (3-10) are losers of five of the last seven – getting beat by double digits in four of the five losses.

Today, the Mystics will be try to ride the momentum of the 89-85 overtime win over the Los Angeles Sparks. It will be interesting to watch Crystal Langhorne, averaging 17.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, work her game against Dream’s Alison Bales.

The two aren’t strangers, they were both drafted in 2003 and bother played in the ACC before the WNBA.

Oh, and don’t forget that Washington’s Kelly Miller and Atlanta’s Coco Miller are sisters…
