Washington Nationals option Yunesky Maya to Triple-A Syracuse

Yunesky Maya nabbed his first big league win Saturday night. He pitched 5.1 shutout innings. He threw 78 pitches, 52 ere strikes and only allowed five hits.

He was pretty happy.

Until Sunday at noon, when he was optioned back to Triple-A. Maya – who still had his gear in the locker room at 11 a.m. this morning – is 1-1 in the MLB with a 5.40 ERA in five starts.

The Nationals called up Atahualpa Severing from Syracuse. A reliever, Severing has a 1-0 record with one save in 23 appearances. In his seven-year minor league career, Severing is 29-14 with 22 saves and a 2.96 ERA in 206 games / 20 starts.
