Stanford inks Johnny Dawkins for two more years

It’s all about the green for the Stanford Cardinal. The Tree has a reason to decorate itself. Basketball coach Johnny Dawkins signed a two-year contract extension.

Dawkins will remain with the program through 2015-16. He has a 49-48 record in the three seasons he’s spent at Stanford.

“I am thrilled to extend my affiliation with Stanford University,” Dawkins said. “Not only am I excited about the future of our basketball program, but proud to be part of a world-renowned university and athletic department.”

Athletic Director, Bob Bowlsby, made the announcement Wednesday.

“I am very excited about the future of our basketball program under Coach Dawkins,” said Bowlsby. “Johnny and his staff have recruited very well and are on the brink of some very fun years ahead. Our team is young but very talented and I am confident of the growth and maturation in the years ahead. Johnny has done a tremendous job of leading our basketball program and is a perfect fit at Stanford.”

Dawkins, finished 15-16 in 2010-2011, enjoyed coaching his first class of recruits last season. Last year was the first year with a roster of his own recruits after he took over in April 2009.
