Vanderbilt beats Oregon State, 9-3

Left on base. Defensively, Vanderbilt was able to get out of a jam nearly every inning. And then capitalize shortly thereafter.

The Commodores’ Aaron Westlake hit, count ’em, three two-run home runs and led Vanderbilt to a 9-3 victory over Oregon State Saturday night. The Commodores clinched their first trip to the College World Series while outscoring Oregon State 20-4 in the best-of-three series

Westlake, drafted in the third round by the Tigers, became the first Vandy player to hit three home runs in a game in 20 years. Anthony Gomez knocked in two runs as well.

The only bright spot for the Beavers was Parker Berberet’s two RBIs and Carter Bell’s solo home run in the eighth.

Vanderbilt now advances to the College World Series.
