NCAA’s FBS schools turn profits

Surprise news: The NCAA says more Football Bowl Subdivision athletic departments are turning profits.

Okay, so it might not seem like news – especially with how much money the BCS makes and how popular college football has become. But the NCAA is releasing a new report complete with revenues and expenses and the results are surprising.

Only 22 FBS schools turned a a profit in 2009-2010. That is up from 14 in 2008-2009.

The best news might be that FBS schools brought in – on average – 9.5 percent more this year than last. The FCS increased 14 percent. Compared to expenses rising 1 percent for the FCS schools and a 8 percent decrease in expenses.
