NCAA opens hearing regaring Tennesse athletics

The NCAA Committee on Infractions started Saturday with something far from a picnic or a dip in the pool. The committee started looking into allegations against the football and men’s basketball programs at Tennessee.

The committee sat down with former coaches from both programs. Former basketball coach Bruce Pearl – who is no longer coaching – was first, followed by Lane Kiffin – who is now at USC – was second. During the investigation by the NCAA, the schools – more specifically the coaches – were charged with committing recruiting violations and failing to promote an atmosphere of compliance.

The 22-month investigation turned up a dozen rules violations.

Saturday’s hearing is expected to last all day.
