IOC hears presentations from networks, deciding TV rights

In Switzerland Monday, Fox led off the presentations to gain TV rights for the Olympic games. The three U.S. networks bidding for the next set of television rights, Fox, NBC and ESPN, will most likely lead to a multi-billion-dollar deal.

Sources are saying the deal coudl last through 2020.

Fox Sports chairman, David Hill, headed the six-man team that presented in a two-hour meeting with the International Olympic Committee, making a pitch to secure the first games for Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp.

Both NBC and ESPN will make their presentations tomorrow. The three networks will then all submit sealed bids to the IOC.

At stake are rights to the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, and 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The networks also can bid on a four-games package including the 2018 and 2020 Games.
