Florida beats Miss. St., advances to CWS

The Florida Gator went out swinging – using a season-high five homeruns to defeat Mississippi State Sunday, 8-6. Florida now advances to the College World Series.

One of the five home runs, a three-run shot by Preston Tucker in the bottom of the seventh inning was the final dagger. After a pair of walks and a sacrifice bunt, Tucker hit a 3-1 pitch over the fence in center field to give the Gators (50-17) a 7-6 lead.

Meanwhile, most of Mississippi State’s offense came from the bat of Nick Vickerson. He drove in four runs on a three-run home run and an RBI single (which was part of a three-run seventh inning that put the Bulldogs ahead 6-4).

The gators will wait to see how the final seedings fall for the College World Series before they find out who they play first.
