Dallas Mavericks win NBA Championship, Nowitzki named MVP

The Dallas Mavericks have won the 2011 NBA Championship in Miami Sunday night. A complete flip-flop from the ending in 2006 when the Heat won the title in Dallas.

Dirk Nowitzki has been named MVP of the NBA finals for his huge role in leading the Dallas Mavericks to their first championship. It just didn’t happen in the opening half of the deciding game. Nowitzki missed 11 of his first 12 shots and matched his series low with 21 points.

His teammates stepped up when it was time, though. Jason Terry scored 27 and every starter and reserve made a contribution and the Mavericks beat the Miami Heat 105-95 Sunday night to wrap up the first title in franchise history.

Players like Ian Mahinmi had a third-quarter buzzer-beater and DeShawn Stevenson had three 3-pointers in the first half.

The Big Three, though, were held in check.

LeBron James scored 21, Chris Bosh had 19 and Dwyane Wade 17 for the Heat.

James’ wait for his first NBA title will extend into at least his ninth season.

More to come….
