Calipari gets a new contract

The University of Kentucky has extended men’s basketball head coach John Calipari’s current contract with the team by two years. The deal gives Calipari a total of eight more years with the team.

Along with the extension, Calipari received a raise from the Wildcats. His previous deal was worth $31.65 million over eight years in Kentucky, the new contract will pay him $36.5 million over those eight years.

Perhaps the most intriguing point about the deal is that it virtually insures that Calipari won’t be headed to the professional ranks anytime soon as has been speculated. The deal puts him beyond an average NBA salary, and seems to hint that the legendary head coach will be bleeding Kentucky blue for a long time to come.
