Rizzo fined for confronting umpire

Washington Nationals General Manager Mike Rizzo might think twice the next time he disagrees with a call.

Rizzo, and catcher Ivan Rodriguez, have been “disciplined” by Major League Baseball for confronting umpires in a stadium tunnel after a disputed call last week.

The call in question involved Jayson Werth. He was called out by first-base umpire Phil Cuzzi in the ninth inning of Thursday’s 1-0 loss to the New York Mets. Replays appeared to show Werth was safe.

After the call, both Rodriguez and Rizzo disagreed.

Rodriguez was fined an undisclosed amount, MLB spokesman Pat Courtney told The Associated Press Monday. Courtney didn’t elaborate on the level of “discipline” used on Rizzo.
