NCAA Women’s basketball posts record attendance

NCAA women’s basketball attendance for the 2010-2011 season surpassed 11 million for the fourth-consecutive season.

There were also record highs were achieved in Divisions I and III.

The NCAA said Tuesday that 8,127,779 people attended Division I games. That breaks the 2007-08 record by roughly 40,000 people.

Attendance for all three NCAA divisions was 11,159,837 people – second all-time. The mark  fell short of the record 11,160,293 set in 2008-09.

The average attendance last season at the 4,949 Division-I games was 1,642. The Big 12 Conference led all leagues with 4,720 people per game and a total of 1,005,377 fans over the course of the entire season.

For the eighth straight season, and 14th out of the last 15, Tennessee led the NCAA in home attendance with 12,599 per game. Louisville followed with 10,859, and Connecticut was next at 9,788.

The Division-I NCAA Tournament drew 248,702 spectators for an average of 5,921 per game.
