Sounders get lucky, draw with Union

Seattle Sounders Alvaro Fernandez scored in the 91st minute to salvage a 1-1 draw with the Philadelphia Union on Saturday.

It was the first goal the Union surrendered in the past four games. Fredy Montrero had the assist for Seattle (1-2-3) which only has one win in its last four games. He has allowed only two goals all season.

After Union Kyle Nakazawa was fouled in the 32nd minute, Carlos Ruiz gave the Philadelphia Union (3-1-1) the lead with a curling freekick goal past diving Seattle goalkeeper Kasey Keller.

It was Ruiz’s second goal in league play this season.

The Union lead the Eastern Conference with 10 points.

The next Union game, against Real Salt Lake, was rescheduled. The next game is April 30 against the San Jose Earthquakes at PPL Park. The Sounders travel to Colorado to take on the Rapids on Friday.
