Sheen apparently no longer “winning”

I rarely delve into the world of entertainment news. I feel as though I don’t belong.

The glitz. The glam. What do I have that is remotely close to either of those?

Well, my Jeeps bumper is chrome…

Anyway, Caryn Rousseau of the Associate Press wrote an interesting article today. Apparenly, Charlie Sheen isn’t quite as popular as even he believes.

Rousseau reported that people were lining up outside the Chicago Theatre, in Chicago. But they were doing so with “low expecations” because of what happened in Detroit.

Where he was practically booed offstage.

Rousseau:

Sheen was heckled, booed and eventually abandoned by the crowd at his inaugural stage show. Many audience members in Detroit chanted “refund” and headed for the exits even before the show abruptly ended.

How about that? What ever happened to his 3.4 million followers? Do none of them live in Detroit?

I’m pretty sure that “Sheen-mania” isn’t because people think he is “so awesome” but rather because he was instantaneously the symbol of the American plight – in a very general sense.

Think about it.

Outside of his drugs and odd living situation, here is a person who is working at a job, doing so successfully, and making a livable wage. Then, he makes some remarks that every American would make if they could: He said in so many words, without me, this ship would sink.

It’s how every businessperson feels. Chef to chiropractor, Safety Inspector to scientific investigator.

Then he got canned for it. And turned into a train wreck.

And overnight he was more than an underdog, he was someone that was instantly relate-able. A guy who lost his job. A funny guy, who lost his job. A train wreck of a funny guy, who lost his job.

A famous, train wreck of a funny guy who lost his job.

And a famous funny train wreck might be fun to look at the window, but no one wants to pay to see it.

Or stick around any longer than they have to.
