Giants owner called for jury duty

The owner of the New York Giants, John Mara, will be an alternate juror for a drug trial. He did make a request to be dismissed because of the upcoming NFL draft.

The trial is expected to last three weeks.

According to the Associated Press:

After he was selected from a larger pool of jurors, Mara asked Judge Jed Rakoff if he could be released from the obligation because the trial was supposed to last until the draft. He also cited the possibility he might be summoned to help the league negotiate with players’ representatives.

The federal judge, treating Mara like every other citizen in America, rejected the request.
