Dennis Rodman says he’s Hall of Fame bound

Dennis Rodman will be a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame’s Class of 2011.

Rodman says he was informed Thursday that he would be enshrined in the Hall of Fame and that he should be in Houston, Texas for Sunday’s official announcement.

The five-time NBA champion and two-time defensive player of the year was honored Friday night by the Detroit Pistons, who retired his No. 10 jersey, during halftime of their game against the Chicago Bulls.

Rodman was among 12 finalists for the Hall of Fame this year along with players such as Maurice Cheeks, Chris Mullin and Ralph Sampson. The induction ceremony is in August.

In 14 NBA seasons, Rodman averaged 13.2 rebounds and 7.3 points per game. He was known for his outstanding rebounding and defense on the court, as well as his eccentric personality off of it.
