Not much has changed from last week. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is gone and Fresno State finally pushed into the rankings. We’ve got a new team at number one (Vanderbilt), and UCLA continues to free fall. The Bruins were No. 4 in the country just two weeks ago, and now are at No. 19.
Still no appearance from Oregon State though. The Beavers have a good record early, and appeared in a national poll for the first time this week, but appearing in one poll and having no wins (not their fault) against Top 25 teams is not enough to push them into the Top 25. Oregon State has knocked off both Connecticut and Oregon early in the season, but neither team was ranked at the time of the match-up – so no bonus points for the Beaver victories.
If I were to pick two teams to keep an eye on this week they’d be Oregon State and Long Beach State. The two squads are playing great, with the Beavers sitting at No. 72 in The [Five] rankings and posting a strong 13-3 record. LBSU is at No. 31 in our rankings and despite only an 8-7 record, hold five wins over Top 25 teams (one against a Top 10 squad). Oh, and did I forget to mention the Beavers and the Dirtbags have a three game tilt this weekend in Long Beach? Well, they do.
Another series to watch is in the ACC as No. 5 Virginia plays host to No. 4 Florida State.
