Panthers sign Jeremy Shockey

Just days after being released by the New Orleans Saints, free agent TE Jeremy Shockey has agreed to a contract with the Carolina Panthers.

Shockey announced the move via his Facebook page by stating,

“Looks like I’m signing with Carolina. Time for the Next chapter. This is a great opportunity for me, and I am excited to play football. Lets hope we all have the chance to play this season.”

Over the past week Shockey has met with several teams and even took a physical with the Miami Dolphins. Tennessee Titans officials met with agent Drew Rosenhaus at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis about the possibility of adding Shockey, but ultimately the tight end settled on Carolina.

Shockey was with the New York Giants when the team won the Super Bowl in 2007 but was injured late in the year with a broken fibula and ankle damage and did not play in the postseason.

He subsequently joined the Saints and helped New Orleans win a championship in the 2009 season.

Shockey, 30, had 41 catches for 408 yards last season for the Saints.
