Miami Heat sign Mike Bibby

The Miami Heat have signed free agent point guard Mike Bibby.

Mike Bibby’s agent, David Falk, confirmed Tuesday evening that his client signed with the Heat after clearing waivers, according to Washington Post beat writer, Michael Lee’s, Twitter account.

Bibby was released by the Wizards on Monday afternoon after he reached a buyout agreement where he forfeited his entire $6.2 million in salary for the 2011-2012 season.

Bibby is a 12 year veteran who is best known for the role he played on the Sacramento Kings squads of the early 2000’s. His best season came in 2005 when the point guard averaged 21.1 points and 5.4 assists per game. The Heat would like to add his veteran presence and playoff experience.

Between the Kings and the Atlanta Hawks, Bibby has played in 80 post-season games where he has averaged 15.3 points and 4.3 assists per game. The Hawks traded Bibby to the Washington Wizards at last Thursday’s trading deadline for point guard Kirk Hinrich.

Bibby is averaging just 9.1 points and 3.6 assists per game this season.

  1. Word of advice: Unless David Falk spoke to you personally link to the original story where you got this. Plus links will help this site get more traffic and that’s how the internet works.

    • Thank you for reading, Grant. If I remember correctly, this piece of information was originally reported on Twitter by Michael Lee and spread quickly. We strive to make the right decision when citing sources from Twitter and, because of it’s liquidity, citing Twitter posts is an article-by-article decision. Perhaps this time we goofed. Good catch.
