Mets Beltran out with knee tendinitis

New York Mets right fielder Carlos Beltran will be shut down due to tendinitis in his left knee.

Beltran had major surgery on his right knee in January of 2010 and missed much of last season. The 33-year old outfielder already agreed to relinquish his position in center field to Angel Pagan due to concerns about his mobility from the right knee injury.

“We’re going to try to nail this problem before it becomes more serious,” general manager Sandy Alderson said.

Beltran went 1-for-3 during his Spring Training debut on Sunday. He said that he had run at about 80 percent of full strength his one time on the bases.
