Flyers Pronger out for remainder of regular season

Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger will miss the remainder of the regular season as he continues to attempt to come back from a broken right hand.

The CourierPostOnline.com was the first to report that Pronger will be sidelined for the Flyers remaining five games.

Pronger has been out of action since March 8th. He was initially injured back on Feb. 24 against the New York Islanders when he was hit by a shot from the Isles’ Ty Wishart.

The star defenseman has been skating for the last two weeks and preparing for a return to the Orange and Black’s lineup. However he suffered a “minor setback” that is likely to keep him sidelined until the start of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

“It’s not going as fast as everybody would like, but he’s probably still on track … maybe not for the regular season, but for the playoffs,” Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren said Thursday night.

Pronger had surgery on March 14 and was told he would need 3 to 4 weeks before returning to the lineup. He returned to practice just a week after the surgery and was defending teammates and taking hard shots at practice as early as 10 days after the surgery.

“He did push it by handling the puck and actually shooting the puck,” Holmgren said. “Nobody likes sitting out and maybe he thought he could come back sooner.”
